The doctors at Oral Surgeons, P.C. are active participants in the fight to end the Opioid epidemic that currently exists in the United States. Despite having less than 10% of the world’s population, the United States consumes 99% of the world’s supply of Hydrocodone. This is a sobering statistic, especially since the research on pain management suggests that the efficacy of Hydrocodone for acute pain management is poor.

We pride ourselves on being a practice that offers the latest technology for diagnosis and treatment, doctors that are committed to providing state of art surgical care through a commitment to continuing education, and providers that practice evidence-based medicine to provide the best possible care for our patients. The prescribing habits of our doctors has changed recently based upon the latest research in pain management. The usage of 600mg of Ibuprofen (3 over the counter pills) every 6 hours in combination with 1000mg of Tylenol (2 extra-strength pills) every 6 hours has been shown to be the most effective treatment for post-operative pain control after oral surgery compared to narcotics and Tramadol. In fact, this regimen was twice as effective in pain control after oral surgery than the strongest possible narcotic dosage of 2 Percocet 5/325 pills, which has a side effect profile of nausea, vomiting, constipation, mental status alteration, and potential addiction that the Ibuprofen/Tylenol regimen does not possess. Thus, the doctors of Oral Surgeons, P.C. have decreased the prescribing of narcotics to virtually nothing based upon solid research in post-operative pain management. If you have medical problems such as liver or kidney disease, please discuss this with your medical doctor or the oral surgeon prior to starting a regimen of Tylenol and Ibuprofen.
