Meet Dr. Lowman Oral Surgeon in the Des Moines IA area

Dr Lowman Oral Surgeon Des Moines IADr. Lowman specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is a Fellow and member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ACOMS). He is also a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA), the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS), and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).

Dr. Lowman received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from California State University at Long Beach in 1967 and entered dental school at the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry that same year. He received his Doctor of Dental Science Degree (DDS) in 1971. He then entered a residency program in Denver, Colorado at St. Anthony Hospital and Denver General Hospital. After the 1971-1972 year, he entered the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He finished the OMS program and received a Master of Science (MS) degree in dentistry in 1975.

Dr. Lowman holds current staff positions with three Des Moines hospitals: Iowa Methodist Medical Center (IMMC) and Iowa Lutheran Hospital (ILH) which are part of the Iowa Health Systems. Dr. Lowman is current Section Chief of the Dental section at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. He also holds a staff position at Mercy Medical Center where he served as Section Chief for several years.

Dr. Lowman was one of the inaugural faculty members of Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Cardiac Life Support in the Iowa Chapter of the American Heart Association from (1976 – 1986). He remains certified in BCLS and ACLS and is an emeritus faculty member in ACLS. Dr. Lowman is a member and past president of the Iowa Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ISOMS) and the GV Black Dental Study Group in the Greater Des Moines area. Dr. Lowman is also a member of the Iowa Dental Association (IDA) and a consultant to the Iowa State Board of Dental Examiners.

To remain current in oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Lowman regularly attends surgical workshops, conferences and meetings.

Dr. Lowman’s family is grown, however his wife, Nancy and he remain very active with their four children, their spouses and grandchildren. Between church, family, work and golf, they both remain very busy.
