Dr. John Janulewicz grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska. He completed his undergraduate studies at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, where he majored in Biology and Spanish and held the office of President of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduating in December of 1996, he spent several months living in Spain prior to starting dental school in the fall of 1997.
He attended the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2001. He received special honors including Outstanding Student Awards in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and in Orthodontics. He was a Dean Scholarship recipient for three years and graduated with high distinction.
Dr. John Janulewicz began his residency training for Oral Maxillofacial Surgery in June 2001. He attended the six-year integrated OMS/M.D. program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He earned his medical degree in 2005, completed an internship in General Surgery in 2006, and commenced his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2007. He trained at UPMC Presbyterian Hopsital, Montefiore Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Oakland, and Mercy Medical Center. Dr. Janulewicz first-authored a research paper about the effects of maxillary advancement on the speech of cleft patients, which was published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in March 2004.
He is currently a member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, and the American Medical Association. He is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). Dr. Janulewicz is well-trained in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery with special interest in bone grafting and dental implants.
Personal interests outside of work include spending time with his wife, Erica, and their two children, walking or hiking with their dog, cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers, golfing, hunting, and fishing.
